It's long been our desire to travel the world. Indeed it's one of the things that brought Sam and I together and led to our first 4 week back packing trip to Mexico. Once marriage and children came along we soon decided we wanted to inspire our children to want to see the world. So where work and finance allows we have always aimed to head to somewhere less typical. Not to say we don't love our trips to Europe, we do. It's just that we live in such an amazing world we want to see it all!
Once the boys were old enough we've very much involved them in our holiday choices. Our last family decision was our trip to Sri Lanka (though Sid was adamant he wanted to visit Ghana thanks to their World Cup exploits the previous year!). This year the lads wanted to return to Asia, so we looked at the options and narrowed it down to Thailand or Vietnam together as a family. Unfortunately finance dictated we chose Thailand as job changes meant I was earning a lot less than before. So this year we head to the well travelled destination of Thailand.
I've developed this site as a hobby and a way of recording our travels somewhere that family, friends and hopefully other people can see how easy it is to take their children further afield. Not sure I'm doing the environment any favours by promoting long haul travel but it is affordable for all so why not. Maybe in the future I should pursue a career in travel I feel so strongly about getting our children to see and appreciate the world.
As a Primary School teacher it frustrates me no end how little knowledge and understanding most children have about the world, the cultures that exist separate to our own and the people and places they will never get to experience unless we open their eyes to the travel opportunities the modern world provides. What better way to become a truly global citizen than to experience and embrace everything the world has to offer? How can we truly understand the difficulties others face unless we visit, see and experience these things first hand?
I'm hoping my blog becomes a way of communicating with everyone who happens across it, just how easy, exciting and enlightening a family trip can be.
