This free competition @ http://vacationrentaltravels.com/contest/ seems like too good an opportunity not to share.
Use this link - http://vacationrentaltravels.com/f/328312 to get extra entries into the competition. We'd all like to chill in Fiji so make it happen! Well we secured a 40% discount voucher for the Citadines 8 Sukhumvit as a returning customer. A 2 bedroom apartment in a nice little side street off the shopping madness of Sukhumvit reduced from £70 to £42 is a bargain. We've booked up for 5 nights so we can explore Bangkok a little before heading south to Khao Sok.
Still need to book somewhere for our first 5 nights on Ko Phangan but have a few options. The Tongtapan Resort, Longtail Resort and Candle Hut Resort all have availability just need to sort our budget. The trip has come together pretty well so far. Just need to hope Nok Air have some sale priced flights from Bangkok released for the dates we want. Currently they have their cheapest flight for 600 baht (£12) or 900 baht including a transfer to the national park. Unbelievable!!! Stay happy and travel safe! Well we have booked for 3 nights at http://www.khao-sok-resort.com/ looking forward to exploring the lakes and limestone cliffs in the jungle.
Our big dilemmas involve where to go after this. We have decided Ko Phangan is our destination and most likely Thong Nai Pan Yai as a resort. However we cannot decide between the lovely looking http://www.candlehutresort.com/ in their 2 bedroom hut @ about £72 a night or the better value http://www.longtailbeachresort.com/ again in a 2 bedroom hut for only £48 a night but no swimming pool. Both are right on the beach so the lack of a pool isn't a huge issue. Bangkok accommodation is in the process of being resolved we hope. The Citadines Sukhumvit 8 Hotel we used last year promised us a 40% discount if we ever returned, however we need an email code to book at this rate (about £44 for 2 bedrooms). Unfortunately we never received the email. It's in the hands of their central booking office now so we should be sorted soon. We have had lots of communication from other travellers via Trip Advisor recently. It's great to hear from other people taking their children away on exciting adventures and to think we might have offered even a snippet of useful advice is nice to hear. Happy travels everyone. Salad Hut booked! We appear to have claimed the last room available for the week starting 11th August, a 2 bedroom beachfront villa.
http://www.saladhut.com/accommodation.html We are still trying to decide on somewhere for 5 nights in Bangkok to start us off. Hopefully something quite cheap to readdress the budget. We have also been looking at Khao Sok National Park for a three night safari. Waiting to hear back from a few places but our favourite looks like the Las Orquideas Resort , http://www.khao-sok-resort.com/. The boys are keen to do some canoeing and head off on a lakeside adventure amongst the limestone cliffs. Finally we have a 4-5 night gap to fill somewhere, possibly another resort on Ko Phangan in a different bay. We are also excited to know that we'll have some friends in Thailand, hoping to meet up with them in Bangkok or on Ko Phangan. Stay happy and keep supporting us. I gratefully received a set of the Clever Tykes books at the back end of last week. The three stories are aimed at readers between 7-11 so I thought they would be ideal for my pair of reprobates to have a read of.
Sid sat down on Tuesday night, his one night off from sport each week, and began reading through Code-it Cody. By bed time I ventured to ask him what he though? His response was "I really liked Code it Cody, it was an awesome story. It was my favourite of the three!" Seems he'd managed to read all three books that night one after the other. Certainly a resounding thumbs up from the oldest son. He went on to tell me that he thought the story was a great way to promote the idea that sticking at something makes it worthwhile. I asked if he could bring me the books back so I could take them into school. His speedy response was "Once Frank has finished them!" Appears our youngest had followed in his brothers footsteps and was ploughing through his second book - Change it Cho. Both lads thoroughly enjoyed the set of three books, Walk it Willow being Franks favourite, Sid sticking by his original choice of Code-it Cody. Sid did feel the stories were aimed at children a little younger than him, maybe 8 or 9, but there again he is reading well above his chronological age. My next challenge is to take the books into school and try to engage the children in my class to give them a read. I'll be sure to tell you how it goes. The teachers book might be my next purchase. http://clevertykes.com/ have written a nice set of books to engage young readers. The messages and content of the stories is modern and inspiring. If my lads enjoy reading something they get absorbed and these three books were read solidly over a 2-3 hour period, so they have something. Any teacher or parent friends looking for a Christmas set, some books to engage readers in class or simply as a gift for someones should have a look. Follow the link to http://clevertykes.com/ and see for yourself. Well if you want to give other people advice it seems reasonable to follow it yourself!
After much number crunching and soul searching we decided we couldn't avoid the opportunity to return to Thailand in 2015. Using the advice shared on here I scoured the flights out of Glasgow over the past week, eventually turning up a bargain on Emirates Airlines. Looks like our advice was sound as we undercut all but the longest flights out of Heathrow. Even Sam's friend was impressed and booked up to fly a day earlier than we did. Now the exciting part begin and we plan where to go and where to stay. We'd like to spend a little longer in Bangkok this trip but thought we'd avoid a return to Chiang Mai. However that is now open to discussion as Sid claims "it was my favourite place in all Thailand!" No doubt the zip wire, tigers and elephants influenced that. One thing is for certain we aim to complete our PADI while we are there and enjoy some more diving on either Koh Phangan or Ko Tao. Well lockeysonholiday.weebly.com is back in action. Happy holidays everyone! |
