Well fortunately the town is reinventing itself as a laid back, surfing town aimed at families. The gentrification is certainly not finished but pockets of block paving on the main street, an abundance of restaurants and some new shopping developments like Jaco Walk are certainly trying to spruce the place up.
Don't be disheartened by it's reputation, Jaco has a lot to offer. We have loved relaxing by the pool at the lovely Los Ranchos hotel, 50 yards from the 2km black sand beach. The sea is a little rough unless you are a surfer, of which there are plenty. For 6 nights we've chilled, eaten amazing food and restored a little energy ready for our next move down the coast.
We've managed to walk loads to burn off some of the calories. But it's with a heavy heart that we move on tomorrow to Manuel Antonio, filming location for Jurassic Park! Plenty of adventures and more action await the Lockey on Holiday.
